Vindobona Hash House Harriers 850th
8 - 10 October 1999

Also known as the Millennium Bug Run!

(For the author of this graphic and more Y2K humour please see Donald A. Coggan's Site)

Here is our latest plan for the 850 (All of these details subject to change, but, if you have registered, we will notify you of any changes) :-

Friday 8th October - Crossfield's Australian Pub - 6 p.m. - Registration & Pub Crawl

Meet at Crossfield's Australian Pub, Maysedergasse 5, 1st district.  This pub is in a small street off Kärntnerstrasse, just behind the Opera and the Sacher Hotel in central Vienna.  Detailed instructions will be sent to those out-of-town visitors who have registered in advance. We will have a drink, register, have a drink, meet your hosts, have a drink, eat something, have a drink, etc. A limited number of drinks will be included in your registration fee. Any drinks beyond this limit and any food you buy, you will have to pay for.

During registration you will get a goody bag containing the T-Shirt, some other gifts and full directions to all the other events during the weekend.

At some stage in the evening (10 p.m?), a group will head off on a pub crawl around some of the best bars in Vienna, led by our very own Tequil'over. Glo-Balls will remain at Crossfield's for registrations until midnight, and will have maps of the pub crawl so that latecomers can catch up.

Saturday 9th October - Giesshübl - 1.30 p.m. - 850th Hash

The Hash will start from the car park at the end of the Giesshübl Hauptstrasse. Map Reference, Blue Book p. 63 Z3.

Directions: Drive out of Vienna on the A2 Südautobahn. Alternatively drive along the A23 (Südosttangente) until it joins the A2. At the junction after the A23 merges with the A2, follow signs for Linz and turn right onto the A21. This is the Aussenringautobahn. Follow the A21 until you see signs for Giesshübl and then leave the motorway. Turn right at the end of the slip road and then left into the main street (Hauptstrasse) of Giesshübl. Drive right through the village and park in the car park at the end of this road.

By Public Transport: From the centre of Vienna, take the U1 (underground railway) to Südtiroler Platz. Follow directions to the Südbahnhof and take the Schnellbahn number S2 to Liesing. From Liesing take the 256 bus to its terminus in Giesshübl. This journey takes about 50 minutes from the centre of Vienna (e.g. Karlsplatz), but the bus only runs twice an hour. The timetable will be included in the Goody Bag and most people should be able to get a lift.

After the run there will be a few beers to drink, some breads and spreads, and many Down-Downs.

Saturday 9th October - ÖES Sports Ground (formerly known as the ÖBB Sports Ground), Arbeiterstrandbadgasse 128  - 7.30 p.m. - Millennium Bug Party

Directions: Take the U1 to Alte Donau, come out of the entrance and cross the street via the pedestrian crossing. Turn right, down Arbeiterstrandbadgasse and walk about 50/100 yards/meters until you come to the entrance to the ÖES Sportanlage.

Saturday evening will be a decent meal with music and plenty to drink, all included in your registration fee.

The theme will be the Millennium Bug. You are expected to dress appropriately, any kind of insect will do, Down-Downs will be awarded to anyone who does not dress up!

We will have some special improvised theatre entertainment from improx-X and a disco.

There will be a tombola/raffle.  Please bring something (a bottle of wine/spirits or a T-shirt?) as a prize and give it to the GM (Karl "Mind the Gap" Bryk).

Sunday 10th October - Karlsplatz - 11 a.m. Hangover Run (Run 851)

At 11 a.m. there will be a hangover run starting from Karlsplatz, near the Karlskirche, which is actually on the left side of the VH3 logo. This will be a gentle run around the touristic bits of Vienna, followed by some more Down-Downs, lunch and then we all go home. You pay for lunch and any drinks consumed at the Restaurant

Costs

Cost will be AS 700. This will include a T-shirt and other presents in a goody bag, beer after the runs, food and drink Saturday night and a limited number of drinks Friday night. It will not include accommodation, food on Friday night, Saturday or Sunday lunch time, or any drinks you consume beyond the limit on Friday night.
